Castle Ravenloft

The crypt door opens, revealing a dark and musty chamber. Coffins line the walls. A distinct chill is felt as you step across the threshold... Ravenloft is an interesting D&D setting. Having never played much with it, I do like the theme. Thus it is that the D&D Adventure system (i.e. DM-less dungeon crawl) allowed me to explore Count Strahd's castle. And the first step, of course, was to paint the castle's denizens.

Sword and Sorcery - Immortal Souls Three colors of plastic for basic monsters, purple for elites I began with the monsters, which has become my modus operandi for this kind of cooperative "dungeon crawler" game. I planned to paint basic swathes of Green, Red, and Blue. But as I painted, I couldn't help but paint the leather and metal appropriately 'realistic' colors, and leave the blue and red to cloths or the edge of the base. The elite monsters received the most detail time. The large chunky details were enjoayable, especially on the bone-helmeted troll. I moved on to the heroes immediately after finishing the monsters. Some of theme are a bit messy, even with my efforts to remove flashing and mould lines. I like the dynamic poses of the magic-user and the assassin. The knight is good, but the plastic is soft and his sword was nearly impossible

Lord of the Rings - Journeys in Middle Earth

Lord of the Rings - Journeys Through Middle Earth I began with the monsters, working my way through using Sorastro on Youtube as a guide, and also cutting the process down to a simplified minimalistic base coat wash combined for the Ruffians, Goblins, and Orcs. (Turns out, I was just ahead of "Contrast" paints, which do the same concept!) After that I spend some more time on the more powerful monsters, focusing on the undead spectral glow, the fur coat of the wolves, and the skin on the Ogre. The Heroes were painted as a group, focusing on smooth cloaks and one main detail per mini. Aragon, the cloak. Gimli, the Axe. Legolas, the bow. Bilbo, the sword. Elena, the Harp. Beravor, Cloak and face.
