Holiday Havok 2022 - a Blitz Bowl Tournament

Third annual Blitz Bowl tournament - Holiday Havok 2022!

We played over the course of a month, using modified second edition rules. I wanted to use the new Ultimate Edition rules but we don't have all the models set up for that yet. So we are playing instead with the mainly the 2nd Edition rules and some tweaks using the new players where we can.

Two new teams debut in this tournament, Khorne and the Wood Elves.

I had painted my original Chaos Team to be Khorne themed, using Blood Warriors. I will transition this team to be a Khorne team, and maybe sub out their beastmen? Probably not - one will be designated the Khorngor and the rest 'marauders'.

Open Play Round

At any rate the Khornate Bloodletters opened play against the Halflings - using new player rules, but without a Treeman. The Vicious Vittle-Chasers of Blue Reach managed to pound the Khorne blood worshipers into the slate and took a tight defensive battle 15 -12. It was quite the flipping of the script. Halflings 15  Khorne 12

Before that the first match of the tournament was the host team Puswater Pestilence (Nurgle) against the Stone Skulz (Goblin - no Troll). The Pestigor was all over the field, and his teammates were surprisingly spry as well, but they failed to secure a win, missing several key blocks and dropping two passes. The gobbos were too nimble and took victory Goblins 21 Nurgle 18.

The third game was between the Grymhold Grudge Bearers (Dwarf) and the Casket Jumpers (Shambling Undead). The dwarfs scored early, and were within one tackle of a blowout victory. Then the undead tied up all the dwarfs, and stared to establish some field position. When multiple balls launched they took advantage scoring touchdowns with the Ghoul and a Zombie, after the walking dead stabbed the ball with his spiked hand replacement. Undead 16 Dwarves 14

In a matchup of fast runners - game 4 featured the Twilight Eternals (Wood Elf) hosting the Skittering Gutterpunks (Skaven). Both teams jostled back and forth in the middle for a bit, fighting for position and scoring opportunities. The Skaven managed that first but the Wood Elves immediately responded. The score surged back and forth. As the end game approached the Skaven thrower dropped the ball twice on easy throws, frustrating the heck out of their coach. Especially since there were opportunities to show a good completion, show some teamwork, and get on with it!  Still though the game was close and only a sylvan rushing TD sealed the game. Wood Elves 26 Skaven 23.

Elite Eight

Quarter Final #1 - Greenskin gladiators faced off when the Orcland Raiders hosted the Stoneskulz. The Raiders dominated the middle of the field, but the Stone-headed gitz were everywhere and nifty, scoring just as often. As regular time expired, the goblins frustrated the Big Ork Blocker and he was befuddled (double skulls, re-rolled into, double skulls). They then unleashed carnage , denied the same to the orc squad and scored a last TD, pulling away for the win. The orc thrower just missed a go ahead TD and the ball ended in the goblin endzone in the hands of a lineman, but he was marked. Goblins 31 Orcs 28

Quarter Final #2 - In a matchup of glade lovers - Halflings manage another physical win over the unlucky Coast Breakers. The elves failed to get a passing game going and barely lost to the Vittle Chasers as a result. Halflings 17 Sea Elves 16.

Quarter Final #3 - Finally some Elves showed up to play - Sudden death victory! The DuneStar ShadowKnives scored on a run and then again with a Sprint down the sidelines. The teams traded some points and then the dark elves made quick work if the slower Casket Jumpers, which was not focused at all on what the frustrated coach was yelling. Dark Elves 17 Undead 6.

Quarter Final #4 - The humans showed the wood elves up on agility and strength. Three Harbingers scored a quick touchdown, then kept the middle of the pitch tired up. The elves got a matching score, but were down on players. Then the humans toughness held up, they score again and won a sudden death victory! Humans 25 Wood Elves 15

Semi-Final #1 - Shortest game of Blitz Bowl on record, three goblins scored a turn 2 TD, then turned and burned as the Half-pints gambled on roughing up the Gitz and lost - getting into the face of the goblins had no effect. The Goblins the have been roughing it for years and got the closing score, on turn 4. Goblins 12 Halflings 2

Semi-Final #2 - the Dark Elves & Humans exchanged touchdowns and hits. To begin the fourth quarter of the game, the Dark Elves took a five point lead after a series of hard hits and sidesteps. The elves held the ball, running down the left side desperately trying to hold on to five point lead. But the pesky humans came back with a close out carnage , showing great teamwork, and a big controversy! Rumors fly about possible bribes while the human team claims the playing field was level --- The Dark Elves appeared to have won, but the Humans advance to the finals after the DuneStar team is disqualified by the league. (We broke the rules, but the ending was so fun we let it stand!) The Hochland Harbingers are going to the finals! Humans 22 Dark Elves 20

Holiday Havok Finals 2022 - Humans score a quick throwing TD. The goblins are well set up for a responding score. But then a second and third balls pop out and the Humans score while also covering their own line! A couple hits and severe injuries to a couple goblins ended the game in a rout! Good thing the sponsorship money had already been collected, as Bloodweiser reps are reportedly unhappy with the short game. Humans 20 Goblins 9
