Blitz Bowl Dark Elf team - DuneStar ShadowKnives

I was motivated to paint this team, my 9th Blitz Bowl team, for a painting contest during September 2020. The contest was being put on by a local Facebook group [ Alaska Wargaming ]. I named them the DuneStar ShadowKnives based on the desert theme, a reference to the board game Edge of Darkness, and a reference to the knife in the team symbol.

I already had in mind to paint up my dark elf Blitz Bowl team using Purple and Pink. I decided to make the Cold One Skins pink and the armor purple. My wife suggested the cream and khaki colors for clothing and boots. The last decision was on the base, and I wanted these Dark Elves to have fairly light purplish grey skin, and come out of an orange-ish sand desert with deep shadows. The runner has a ritual tattoo, a sign of his having been the fastest in the group.

Base coats:
Rakarth Flesh {skin}
Naggaroth Night {armor}
Screamer Pink and Desert Yellow {'Cold One' lizard skins}
Retributor Gold {metal armor/accents}
Graveyard Earth {underlayer/trousers}
Zandri Dust {boots}
Dryad Bark {straps}
Mephiston Red {gem/tattoo}
Rakarth Flesh {skulls}

Wash:
Seraphine Sepia {Gold armor} {skulls}{boots}
Agrax Earthshade{trousers/blouses}{straps}
Nuln Oil {dark skin}{inside edges of purple armor}
Drakenhof Nightshade (blue) {skin}
Druchii Violet w Carroburg Crimson{lizard skins}

Re-layer with original layers, then on to
more layering/edging:
Naggaroth Night mixed with Xerxes Purple/Genestealer purple/Dechala Lilac {skin}
Pale Wytch Flesh then Vallejo Deck Tan {skin}
Stormhost Silver {gold armor accents}
Skrag Brown, then Deathclaw Brown {straps}
Karak Stone to Deck Tan {underlayer/trousers}
Screaming Scull, then Ivory {boots}
Red, followed by lighter red and a white dot. {gems}

On the bases I started with Vallejo basing paste, using a toothpick to 'pull up' waves of windblown sand. I then painted that with a mixture of Flat Brown and Doombull Brown (mostly Doombull). Then was a 75% highlight layer from the direction of light using Tau Light Ochre/Ryza Rust/Ratskin Flesh, and then a 50% highlight using Vallejo Yellow Ochre/Tallern Sand/Ungor Flesh. Finally a shadow of Druchii Violet purple wash was laid on the 'shadow' side of each wave, and the skulls.
I was following instructions per Plazroid Desert Bases.
